Which Hand Should the Golf Glove Be On? Here's the Answer

Simple rule: the front hand

The golf glove goes on the hand that is on top of the golf club in your grip — that is, your leading hand . For a right-handed golfer, that means the left hand. For a left-handed golfer, that means the right hand.

Why just one hand?

The front hand has the most contact with the grip and does most of the work of keeping the club steady through the swing. This is where the friction — and therefore wear — is greatest. The back hand is more free-standing and rarely needs the same support.

Some golfers, especially in cold weather, choose to play with gloves on both hands. There is nothing wrong with that, but for most people, one glove on the leading hand is sufficient.

Unsure about right or left?

Try this: hold your hands up as if you were swinging a club without actually holding one. The hand that naturally ends up on top of the shaft is your leading hand — and the one that will wear the glove.
