How to put on your golf glove correctly – avoid the mistakes that cost you

How to put on your golf glove the right way – complete guide

Many golfers put their gloves on incorrectly and wear them out unnecessarily quickly. In this guide, we show you exactly how to put on your golf glove for the best fit, grip and longevity.

Therefore, it is important to put on the glove correctly

A well-fitting golf glove should fit like an extra layer of skin: tight, without creases, but without squeezing. Wearing it incorrectly will quickly wear out the glove and can cause problems such as:

  • Poor grip on the club
  • Chafing and discomfort during the round
  • Unnecessary wear and shorter service life
  • Impaired feeling in the swing

Avoid the most common mistake: pulling too hard

Many golfers like to test the durability by pulling hard on the glove when they put it on – especially at the fingertips. The thought is often "it should be durable".

However, this is completely the wrong way to do it. A golf glove should fit snugly even when you pull it on gently. You should never have to use force. Pulling too hard will stretch the material unnecessarily, especially if it is genuine Cabretta leather, which is sensitive to overstretching.

Step-by-step: How to put on your golf glove correctly

1. Make sure your hand is dry

Always start with dry hands. Moisture makes it harder to get the glove to slide properly into place and increases the risk of pulling unnecessarily hard.

2. Start with your fingers

Insert each finger into the correct position. Gently pull each fingertip so that the material lies smoothly and tightly over the fingers.

3. Swipe across the palm of your hand

Once the fingers are in place, gently pull the glove into place over the palm of your hand. Avoid pulling on the fingertips at this point.

4. Check your wrist

Before closing the Velcro – iron out any creases around the wrist so that the glove lies flat and comfortable.

5. Close the Velcro – but not too tightly

Fasten the Velcro so that the glove fits securely but not tightly. Leave a little room for adjustment during the round if your hand swells slightly from heat or activity.

The right size reduces wear and tear

A common reason why many people pull too hard on their gloves is that they are actually playing with the wrong size. The right size should fit so tightly that it almost requires a bit of precision to get your fingers in – but never force.

  • A glove that is too big risks wrinkling, slipping and thus wearing out faster.
  • A glove that is too small risks cracking in the material or seams when stretched too much.

Look at the wear – it tells a lot about your grip

If you see that the glove is wearing out quickly in certain places, it can provide valuable information about your grip:

  • The palm of your hand is torn - often a sign that you are gripping with your palms instead of your fingers.
  • Thumb tearing ? may be due to incorrect thumb position.
  • The heel of your hand is tearing ? may indicate that you are gripping the club too high.

Analyzing wear helps you both protect your glove and improve your technique.

Care for longer life

  • Remove the glove carefully by loosening the Velcro and then pulling on the palm of your hand, not the fingertips.
  • Let the glove air dry after the round.
  • Store it flat or in a glove compartment in your bag.
  • Avoid leaving the glove in heat (e.g. the car) where the leather can dry out.

If the glove breaks – what happens?

All golf gloves wear out over time. How long a glove lasts depends on playing time, grip technique and how well you take care of it. If a glove breaks after normal wear and tear, it is not considered a warranty claim.

However, if a new glove breaks abnormally quickly, for example due to a manufacturing defect in the seam or material, we will of course help you. Please contact us with your order number and a picture and we will handle the matter smoothly.

Important to know:
A seam on a golf glove will not open on its own. If a seam does open, it is most often due to the glove being subjected to too much force, usually when putting it on or taking it off. Therefore, it is important to follow this guide and always put the glove on without using force.
