Left or right hand – which golf glove should you choose?
One of the most common questions new golfers ask is which hand the golf glove should actually be on. The answer has nothing to do with whether you are right- or left-handed in everyday life, but with how you swing the club. If you play as a right-handed player, that is, swing the club from right to left, you wear the glove on your left hand. If you play as a left-handed player, the opposite applies: the glove is on your right hand.
An easy way to remember this for those new to the game: the glove goes on the hand that grips the top of the club, farthest from the clubhead, i.e. the hand that leads the swing. If you're unsure whether you're a right- or left-handed player, it's usually enough to think about which side you naturally want to stand on when holding a club or a baseball bat.
Why just one hand?
The lead hand does most of the work of keeping the club stable throughout the swing, and that's where the friction and wear is greatest. The back hand usually grips a little looser and therefore doesn't need the same protection or support. Therefore, one glove is enough for most people, whether you're playing at a competitive level or just starting out.
Some players use gloves on both hands, but this is uncommon. This is mainly seen in rainy or wet weather, as a rain glove on both hands provides better grip when wet, and by individual players who simply prefer the feel. For regular play in dry weather, a glove on the leading hand is still the standard.
